What is a Permanent?
Permanents are RUSA sanctioned bike rides over established courses that can be ridden on any date mutually agreed to by the rider(s) and the permanent's organizer. Permanents are 200 km or longer courses; Permanent Populaires are any distance from 100 km to 199 km. These rides earn mileage credit toward RUSA medal awards. For Randonneur definitions see the Randonneuring Glossary. (Permanent FAQs).
How to ride a Permanent
To ride a permanent, a randonneur must contact the Permanent Organizer or Route Owner and advise him/her of your intent to ride on a certain date and time, then submit a signed Accident Waiver and Release of Liability form prior to the ride. The Permanent Organizer will then send you a dated Control Card. For the full details see the links below:
If you don't find the Permanent you're looking for, try searching the RUSA Permanents Database.
Attention Randonneurs: The cue sheets and map links listed here are for planning purposes only and are "unofficial" documents that may not be up to date on the day of your ride. Randonneurs must contact the permanent organizers to request official documents.
